RETRO BIRDS
In 2000, Ford launched plans for the latest Thunderbird which was finally unvielled in 2002, after a 5 year break from production. The car was planned to be a limited run and numbers ran slighty higher than the original Baby Bird's.
This vehicle was a design exercise and considered a drawing card to create excitement around the Ford brand which it did. People who flocked to their local Ford dealer may not have came away with a small two seater sport luxury roadster, but they did come and many bought new Fords.

With the launch of the 11th edition T-Bird, there was a renewed interest in owning a 2 seater Thunderbird, like the "Little Birds" of 1955 to 1957 in size and style.
While this body style was planned to be a limited edition auto it sold some 66,300, units over the 4 years production.
Many owners found that they wanted more flash in these cars and a few manufacturers stepped up to provide chrome and stainless steel additions to modify the car to suit your own taste. It has become a designer car with a huge following, growing through out the world.
"Thunderbirdnest.com" web site was developed in 2002 with some 6,100 members who exchange information, plan outings and various events with no judging. It is a touring car club for the "retro" THUNDERBIRD enthusiast.
